1. Coldplay - X & Y (2005)

Not a popular opinion but I think this is Coldplay's best album (narrowly beating out A Rush of Blood to the Head (2002)). Alternative space rock with heart. And it's got the universal anthem 'Fix You'.

Favourite: What If?

3. Bruce Springsteen - The Rising (2002)

I only became a Boss fan in 2023. At the time, I never gave this a listen. Last year (2024), I did! And I'm glad. A brilliant rock album inspired by the events of 911.

Favourite: Waitin' on a Sunny Day

5. U2 - How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb (2004)

I like this album a bit more now than on original release. It's perhaps a bit more raucous than All That You Can't Leave Behind (2000).  It is, to date, their last consistently good album. And what a trio of great songs these are: Vertigo, Original of the Species, and Sometime You Can't Make It On Your Own.

Favourite: Original of the Species.

7. Elton John - Blue Moves (1976)

I never listened to this album until last year (2024). I think it is hugely underrated. Home to the classic single Sorry Seems to be The Hardest Word. Like most double albums though, there are tracks you could easily lose.

Favourite: Tonight

9. Aeromsith - Get A Grip (1993)

Come for the album's singles like 'Livin' On The Edge', Cryin', and Crazy, cause you won't be staying for much else!

Favourite: Crazy

2. Radiohead - The Bends (1995)

My first real introduction to Radiohead back in 1995. I don't love it as much as others, but's it's a great album full of quality tunes like Just, Nice Dream, High & Dry, and Planet Telex. Their masterpiece would come next - OK Computer (1997).

Favourite: My Iron Lung

4. Arcade Fire - The Suburbs (2010)

This is an excellent album. However, it is one of my least favourite Arcade Fire releases. Which maybe just shows you how good this band are.

Favourite: The Suburbs

6. Alice in Chains - Alice in Chains (1995)

I never appreciated this album on original release so a real treat to revisit it for the podcast. Is it as good as Dirt? No. Is it a couple of tracks too long? Yes. But, there's quality here in spades, like Grind, Heaven Beside You, and Again.

Favourite: Grind

8. Beck - Odelay (1996)

Some great tunes on here, including Devil's Haircut and The New Pollution. However, the 'throw everything at the wall' approach by producers, The Dust Brothers, means not everything works.

Favourite: Devil's Haircut

10. Paul McCartney - Egypt Station (2018)

After dismissing this on original release, I had a good time properly getting to know this album in 2025.

Look, it's middle-of-the pack Macca, but there are some excellent tunes on here, and it's inspiring to hear the ex-Beatle still trying new things at the age of 76!

Favourite: Happy With You
